Tool comparison
Tool comparisonThe Cheapest AI Article Writer, Measured by Cost per Post You Can Publish
List prices per article run from a few cents to several dollars. We worked out each tool's entry price per article from its own pricing page, then added the costs that the price tag leaves out.

On this page▸
The cheapest AI article writer by list price is a credit-based bulk tool such as Autoblogging.ai or SEOWriting.ai, at well under a dollar per standard article. The cheapest per usable post is different: it is the tool whose articles need the least editing and that includes research, images and publishing without charging extra for each.
How we worked out the cheapest AI article writer
Comparing AI article writers on price is harder than it looks, because each one counts differently: credits, words, articles or seats. So we did the same sum for every tool. Take the entry plan's price from the vendor's own pricing page, divide by the standard articles it includes, and note what that article contains.
That gives a list price per article. It is a starting point, not the answer, because the cheapest AI article writer on paper can be the most expensive once you add the extras and the editing. The sections after the table add those costs back. PixelClaw is our product; we explain its numbers separately, and every other figure was read on November 5, 2026.
| Tool | Entry plan | Per standard article | What raises it |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEOWriting.ai | $14 a month billed yearly, up to 50 articles | About $0.28 | Advanced models use 4 to 10 credits |
| Autoblogging.ai | $19 a month, 40 credits | $0.48 (from $0.13 on the largest yearly plan) | SERP analysis, images, non-English: +1 credit each |
| Machined | $19 a month, 30 articles | About $0.63 | None stated; BYOK plan adds provider costs |
| Writon | $9 a month, 10 articles | About $0.90 ($1 pay-per-article) | Longer articles need higher plans |
| Koala | $25 a month, 45,000 words | About $1.10 for 2,000 words | Premium models count words 2 to 3 times |
| Byword | $99 a month, 25 articles | About $3.96 | Extra articles $3.50 each |
| Frase | $49 a month, 10 articles | About $4.90 | Research and optimization included |
List price per article, side by side
Laid side by side, the spread is wide: the cheapest tool here charges under a tenth of the most expensive per standard article. The expensive end includes more research and optimization per article, which is the trade you are making.
Where PixelClaw sits on cost
PixelClaw is not the cheapest AI article writer by list price, and we would rather say so than bend the maths. Its standard post's credits include research, an outline, the draft with its polish pass, and a hero image with alt text; it is scored before it can publish, and it lands on a blog PixelClaw hosts, so there is no CMS or SEO plugin to pay for.
There are two genuinely cheap ways to use it. The free plan includes enough credits for two complete posts, with no card. And on any plan you can connect your own keys: your own AI key for writing, a Firecrawl key for research and an OpenAI or Google key for images. Work on your own keys uses no credits at all, so you pay only your providers' rates. On the Free plan the two included posts are the limit; paid plans put no limit on the posts you keep. The pricing page lists every plan.
The cheapest option for each situation
For one or two articles to see if AI writing works for you, use a free tier: PixelClaw's two posts, SEOWriting.ai's three articles or Koala's 5,000 words. For high volume to a WordPress site where you will edit anyway, SEOWriting.ai or Autoblogging.ai have the lowest list price. For clustered, interlinked articles at volume, Machined's plans are low per article.
For a business blog where nobody has time to edit much, the cheapest option is usually the one that needs the least fixing, which points to tools that research and check. And at real volume with technical comfort, bring-your-own-key plans, such as Machined's BYOK plan, cut the per-article price to your provider's cost. PixelClaw on your own keys does the same for the AI work, while your plan sets how many posts you keep.

- Entry prices per standard article run from under $0.30 to over $5, read from each vendor's own pricing page.
- Extras change the ranking: research, images, premium models and other languages often cost more per article.
- Editing time is the biggest hidden cost; a cheap article that needs twenty minutes of fixes is not cheap.
- Free plans are the cheapest way to start: PixelClaw, Autoblogging.ai, SEOWriting.ai and Koala all have one.
- Running a tool on your own AI keys can be the cheapest option at volume, because you pay only the provider.

How can I lower the cost of AI articles?+
Use your own AI provider keys where a tool allows it, switch off extras you don't need, write in clusters so research is reused, and publish fewer, better articles. Refreshing an existing article is often cheaper than writing a new one.
