The short answer

The best AI SEO writers in 2026 write for Google and for AI answers at once. Frase, Writesonic and Scalenut pair writing with tracking of AI mentions; Surfer and Semrush add AI search to classic optimization; PixelClaw scores every post on answer-engine and AI-discovery checks before it publishes; Koala is the pure long-form drafter.

Why AI SEO writers now have two jobs

A year ago an AI SEO writer was judged on one thing: does the article rank? Now a growing share of questions are answered before anyone clicks, in Google's AI features, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Those answers quote pages that state things plainly, near the top, with sources a model can trust. A writer that only chases keyword density misses half the job.

So we rated seven AI SEO writers on both jobs: what each does for ranking in Google, and what each does for being quoted in AI answers. Google's own documentation on AI features is a good baseline: there is no special markup, and the usual best practices apply. PixelClaw is our product; every other fact was read on the vendor's site on November 5, 2026.

Matrix of seven AI SEO writers against four abilities: writing the article, optimizing for Google, structuring for AI answers and tracking AI mentions
Most writers now cover both audiences; tracking AI mentions is the main thing that separates them.

1. PixelClaw: every post checked for search and for AI answers

PixelClaw scores every post out of 100 across five areas, and two of them are about AI answers. Answer engines (AEO) checks for a 40 to 60 word opening answer, an FAQ and coverage of the questions readers ask. AI discovery (GEO) checks that AI crawlers may read the blog and that a publisher name is set. Trust signals (AIO) checks for a named author and at least two sources. The SEO and reader-experience areas cover the classic work.

Posts below 60 cannot publish, and one-click fixes repair what the score flags, each shown to you before it is applied. The free plan includes a hosted blog and enough credits for two posts; Starter is $49.99 a month.

Watch out for: PixelClaw does not track where AI answers mention you; it focuses on making each page quotable.

2. Frase: SEO and GEO scores in one editor

Frase builds each article from the pages that rank, scores it for SEO and for AI search, and tracks AI visibility, with an agent that can publish to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix. Starter is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for 10 articles and 50 audit pages, with a 7-day trial and no card.

Watch out for: Starter stops at its monthly limits; pay-as-you-go starts on Professional.

3 and 4. Writesonic and Scalenut: visibility first, articles included

Writesonic now calls itself an AI search visibility platform. Its Starter plan, $79 a month billed yearly, tracks 50 prompts across AI engines, runs site audits and includes 15 AI articles a month. Scalenut is built the same way at a lower entry price: Starter is $59 a month for 10 tracked prompts and 5 GEO articles, with a 7-day trial on monthly plans.

Both suit a team that wants to watch AI answers and write to close the gaps they find.

Watch out for: on both, the article allowance is small next to the tracking; budget for more writing if content is the goal.

5 and 6. Surfer and Semrush Content Toolkit: classic SEO, extended

Surfer remains the reference content editor for on-page SEO and has added AI writing and AI visibility. Discovery is $49 a month billed yearly; its Pro plan tracks 50 AI prompts daily. Semrush Content Toolkit, $60 a month, finds topics, writes briefs and generates articles optimized for Google and AI search, with five SEO-boosted articles a month, and suits teams already using Semrush data.

Watch out for: Surfer's documents are unlimited under a fair use policy, and the Toolkit's article allowance is small.

7. Koala: the long-form drafter

Koala writes long SEO articles with real-time data, internal links and a Brand DNA agent, and publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or Ghost. It sells words, from 45,000 a month for $25, with a one-time free allowance of 5,000 words.

Watch out for: its site says little about AI answers, and premium models count your words two or three times.

How to choose an AI SEO writer for both audiences

Decide first whether you need tracking. If someone on your team will read an AI visibility report every week and act on it, Frase, Writesonic or Scalenut give you that with the writing. If nobody will, put the money into a writer that structures every page well and checks it before publishing.

Then test with three real topics. Read each draft's opening paragraph: does it answer the question in a sentence or two? Look for an FAQ, named sources and clear headings. Those are the features answer engines quote. For more on structuring posts for AI answers, read our guides to AEO blogs and GEO blogs.

Key Takeaways

  • Frase, Writesonic and Scalenut combine article writing with tracking of where AI answers mention your brand.
  • Surfer and Semrush Content Toolkit add AI search to classic on-page optimization.
  • PixelClaw checks the things answer engines read, such as a 40 to 60 word opening answer, an FAQ, named sources and open AI crawler access.
  • Koala writes long articles well but says less about AI answers than the others.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AI SEO writer?+

An AI tool that researches a search topic and writes an article meant to rank, with the keyword placed sensibly, a clear structure, metadata and links. In 2026 the better ones also write so AI answer engines can quote the page.

How do you write for AI answers as well as Google?+

Open with a short, direct answer, use question headings, include an FAQ, name your sources and author, and let AI crawlers read the site. Google says the same best practices that work for search apply to its AI features.

Do I need a tool that tracks AI mentions?+

Only if you will act on it. Tracking shows which questions mention you in ChatGPT or Perplexity; it does not make you appear. A writer that structures pages well matters more at the start, and tracking helps once you have a body of content.

Which AI SEO writer is best for a small business?+

One that does the whole job without a CMS to run or an SEO team to read the reports. PixelClaw's free plan includes a hosted blog and enough credits for two posts; Frase's Starter plan suits a business that already has a WordPress or Webflow site.
